The 10-Minute Golden Glow Ritual: Mukhabhyanga (the Facial Self-Massage) & Ubtan (Natural Face Mask)

This cherished two-step ritual of self-care passed down through generations of Indian beauty wisdom, is my absolute favorite.

The ritual features our precious Lakadong turmeric, bringing the legendary glow of ancient beauty secrets to your daily practice.

Long treasured by Indian brides renowned for their extraordinary wedding-day radiance, this ritual takes just 10 minutes.

Perfect as a morning ritual to awaken your glow or an evening practice to wash away the day. Practice daily or make it your special weekly self-care ritual - perhaps your Sunday moment of renewal.

The Two Steps:

Step 1: Mukhabhyanga - The Facial Self-Massage (5 minutes)

Warm pure jojoba oil (or facial oil of choice) between your palms

  • Let your fingertips dance across your face in upward circles

  • Release tension from forehead to temples

  • Flow with gentle strokes along cheekbones to ears

  • Complete with soft circles around the jaw and chin

  • Feel your skin awaken with each loving touch

Step 2: Ubtan - The Sacred Face Mask (5 minutes)

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons organic chickpea flour (besan)

  • 1/2 teaspoon precious Lakadong turmeric

  • Pure rose water to form a smooth paste

The Ritual:

  • Mix ingredients until smooth and apply on your face

  • Rest for 3-5 minutes while taking calming breaths

  • Wait until the face feels slightly taut

  • Remove with warm water before the mask fully dries

The Benefits

  1. Mukhabhyanga - The Facial Self-Massage: Gentle upward movements stimulate blood circulation and lymphatic drainage while opening channels, preparing your skin to receive maximum benefits.

  2. Ubtan - Chickpea Flour & Turmeric Face Mask: When combined, these two ingredients create perfect synergy - chickpea flour's gentle exfoliation and natural enzymes help turmeric penetrate effectively into the skin. The flour's zinc content supports healing and skin barrier function, while its proteins form a protective film while maintaining skin's moisture. Together with the prior oil massage, they create an ideal environment for skin renewal, cleansing, and nourishing in perfect balance.

  3. Lakadong Turmeric Benefits: Our treasured Lakadong turmeric works to illuminate your natural beauty. Its precious compounds balance and brighten skin tone while protecting with antioxidants. With each application, it strengthens your skin's natural radiance, bringing forth the timeless glow celebrated in ancient beauty rituals.

Important Notes

Before beginning your Golden Glow Ritual, please perform a patch test by applying a small amount of the ubtan mixture behind your ear or on your inner arm and wait 24 hours to ensure your skin responds well to these natural ingredients.

It is important to remove the paste while it is partially dry. When the paste starts drying but isn't fully dry, it's believed to be drawing out impurities. This phase is considered the “active phase” in Ayurveda. Once completely dry, it's thought to start drawing moisture from the skin instead which can cause an imbalance in the skin’s natural state and might cause micro-tears if you are too harsh removing it.
